Cestria Community Housing was set up with the help of the Council to provide better quality housing services for the district. Unlike the Council, Cestria Community Housing can borrow money to invest in improvements to houses and services.
All tenants had the opportunity to decide if homes should transfer to the Association. In March 2007 the majority of tenants voted in favour of setting up Cestria Community Housing and the Council transferring all its homes to the new association.
As a Registered Social Landlord we have a Board of Management. The Board has overall responsibility for managing the Association. The Board is made up of 15 volunteers. There are five Council nominees, five independent members and five tenants. The work is voluntary and none of the Board members are paid.
Tenants are at the heart of our Association and all tenants of the Association and anyone with an interest in affordable housing within the Chester-le-Street district can apply to become a shareholder. The cost of a share is £1 and the share does not carry any dividends of bonuses.
Being a shareholder enables you to take an active interest in the management of the Association, attend Annual General Meetings, approve the annual report and accounts, elect independent Board members and hold the Board to account.
If you would like to be a shareholder please see Contact Us.
