Tenants excel on computer training course

23/06/2010

Logging on has proved to be a hit with Chester-le-Street housing association tenants wanting to learn how to use a computer.

Following the success of the basic computer training level 1 course provided by Cestria Community Housing, tenants have now gone on to successfully complete their level 2 certificates.

The eight week training course which is delivered in partnership with Age Concern is held at the association’s IT training room at their offices at Bowes, Bournmoor.

The courses introduce general computer use and terminology. They describe the basic hardware components of a PC and introduce basic skills for using software programs in a Windows environment.

Cestria tenant Valerie Dooney, of South Pelaw, said: “It’s been great. I’ve learned so many things like how to send an email. I’ve really enjoyed meeting other people and learning about computers.”

David Jones, Community Engagement Manager at Cestria Community Housing said, “The training courses are proving to be a real success with our tenants and we already have a waiting list for our future courses. Tenants are enjoying finding out more about computers and using programmes such as e-mail and the Internet for the first time.”

The courses which are held every Tuesday between 10.00am and 12.00pm are free and available for tenants aged 50+. For more information on the courses, residents are asked to contact the Community Engagement Team on 0191 385 1931.
