‘Jumpers’ go from Chester-Le-Street To Bangladesh

When Chris Pringle was called out to an emergency heating problem in Ouston, he was surprised to see Mrs Doris Godfrey surrounded by jumpers knitted in all sorts of bright colours and sizes. Doris explained to Chris that she sends them off to a clinic in Bangladesh.
Doris who has problems with her eyesight has to knit the jumpers from memory as she can no longer see the patterns. She got involved in the project when her son met up with a couple from Sunderland who sponsor the clinic and they told him they were looking for someone who could knit. He mentioned it to Doris and in the last two years she has completed over 200 jumpers which have been taken over to the Wear Surma clinic.
Doris said ‘I was glad that Chris arrived quickly that night as I had no heating and couldn’t see the switch to put the fire on’. ‘Once he fixed the heating he showed me where the switch was so I can now put the fire on myself’.
