Gas Safe RegisterEvery property that has a gas boiler and fire has an annual service carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer on behalf of Cestria Community Housing. This is a legal requirement by us as your landlord.

The service is essential for the safety of you and your family and safeguards you against gases such as carbon monoxide.

What is carbon monoxide posioning?

Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas produced when a gas appliance or boiler has not been installed correctly or maintained, or when a flue or chimney has become blocked. It is often called the silent killer.

Every year around 30 people die and over 200 are ill from carbon monoxide poisoning produced by faulty gas appliances and boilers.

Why is it called the silent killer?

It is called this name because you can't see it, taste it or even smell it but it can kill without warning in just a matter of hours.

What are the danger symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning?

The early symptoms include tiredness, drowsiness, headaches, nausea, pains in the chest and stomach pains. These symptoms can mimic many common ailments and may easily be confused with flu or simple tiredness.

What should I look out for?Gas Servicing Team

  • Yellow or orange flames that would normally burn blue
  • Soot or stains around appliances
  • Pilot lights which frequently blow out

Gas escape advice

  • Never cover an appliance or block the convection air vents
  • Never block or obstruct fixed ventilation grills or air bricks
  • Never paint the boiler or gas fire fronts
