Sunderland Foundation of Light

The joint partnership with the Sunderland AFC Foundation is seen by Cestria as one of the most exciting projects ever to be delivered in the Chester-le-Street area. It encourages participation from all ages, all sexes and a wide range of stakeholders who will hopefully benefit from the work being carried out.

Foundation of Light sessions

Kicks and Mini-Kickers

These sessions allow young people to make new friends and develop essential life skills. The sessions continue to go from strength to strength, with an average of 30 young people attending each time.

Some have even become peer mentors and are working towards a volunteering qualification. Three of them recently won the Foundation of Light's Top Scorer Award.

Anti-social behaviour in the Chester West area has reduced by 70%, highlighting the impact of the project.

Activities have included a residential and football tournament in London, a trip to Flamingo Land, Laser Quest amongst others.

Back in the game

Back in the Game works with unemployed adults and has resulted in 16 people gaining employment over the last year.

Cestria provides mock interviews and placements for work experience. The Foundation will work with Cestria's Employability officer to help local people find jobs.

Family Learning

Family Learning gives parents and carers the opportunity to learn with their children and has been a big success in local schools.

Over the last year we have introduced new courses in first aid and mental health awareness and a new partnership with the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation is planned for the near future.

The team also help adults to increase their knowledge of Maths and English, allowing them to support their children with homework.

Courses have also been delivered in partnership with Pathways disability group in Sacriston and Pelton Community Centres with adults achieving a qualification in Sport and Leisure.

Back on Track

Back on Track works with unemployed 16-18 year olds, giving them advice and helping them gain national qualifications in Maths, English and personal and social development.

Success stories include young people gaining apprenticeships and going into further education. The course lasts an academic school year.
